Ellie Jane Goulding grew up in Hereford, England. She was born on the 30th day of December in 1986. Tracey Goulding Summers was her mother and Arthur Goulding belonged to a family of undertakers. Goulding came into the world in the year 2000. Her sisters are, Isabel and Jordan. Her brother is Alex. Alex is her older brother, and she plays the bass in a Hereford group. When she was young her mother inspired her to become a musician. As a young girl, she began learning to play the clarinet. She started writing herself songs around 14 years old, but it wasn't until after she left for university that she began to seriously pursue writing songs. Goulding's interest in electronica music began while she was pursuing her master's degree. Through MySpace she got in touch with producer Frankmusik and, with the help of Frankmusik she came up with her own version of folktronica. Jamie Lillywhite noticed her and became her manager. In the following years, he was asked to take on the role as A.&R in a talent contest. Lillywhite then introduced her to producer Starsmith who assisted her to release her first single under the Sheets on November 15th, 2009. He later worked on Lights. Even though they released the album Under the Sheets under the independent label Neon Gold Records, she was already signed with Polydor Records.
